Sign-up asks one question per screen: account type, your business or Instagram, how you sign in, name, address and what you do.
Sign-up shows one question per screen. Milkcrate starts building your site as soon as you say who you are, so it is already under way while you finish the rest.
Choose your account type
The first screen is “Choose your account type”. Pick Creator if your audience is the product, like a musician, artist or influencer. Pick Professional if your clients book your time, like a barber, trainer or consultant. Pick Business for a venue or company, like a bar, salon or shop. Pick Other for anything else, like a charity or community group. You can change your account type later in Settings, under Account. See account types and capabilities for what each one changes.
Your business or your Instagram
A Business account searches for the business on Google. Pick your listing from the results. A Creator, Professional or Other account types an Instagram handle. Milkcrate builds your site from that listing or profile, in the background, from this point on.
Email, password and code
Type your email and choose “Continue with email”. Then choose a password: at least 8 characters, with a letter and a number. Milkcrate emails you a six-digit code. Enter it to confirm the address is yours. “Send it again” is on that screen if the email doesn’t arrive.
If that email already has an account, the screen says so and links to “Log in instead”.
“Continue with Google” on the email screen replaces all three. You sign in with Google and go straight to your name.
Your name, your address and what you do
A Creator, Professional or Other account enters a first name, a last name and the display name shown on the site. A Business account enters just the business name. Milkcrate fills these in from your listing or profile where it can.
The “Your address” screen shows a handle Milkcrate worked out from your listing or profile, followed by .milkcrate.site. It tells you if the handle is available or taken. Change it here if you want something else. See your handle and address for the rules.
The last screen asks “What do you do?” (a Business account is asked “What industry are you in?”) and has you search for the closest match. Milkcrate uses it to suggest integrations. Choose Finish. Setting up your site can take up to two minutes, so keep the page open.
Your site is public at your address once you finish. You then land in Get started. You can pause the site later. See going live and pausing.
If you close the tab
Once you have confirmed the code, Milkcrate remembers where you got to. Open the sign-up page again in the same browser and you carry on from that screen. Before that, you start again at the email screen. When a draft is saved, the first screen shows “You have an unfinished sign-up” with a “Start over” link that clears it.
Two-factor is separate
Sign-up doesn’t ask for two-factor authentication. You can turn it on afterwards in Settings, under Security. See Security.
If Milkcrate already built your site
If you got an email saying your site is ready, use its link instead. The flow is shorter and skips the questions Milkcrate already has answers to. See claiming a site built for you.
