Reading your analytics
Analytics shows who visited your site and what they did there. One date range covers the whole page.
Analytics is built in. There is nothing to install or connect. Open Analytics in your dashboard to see how people find and use your site.
The date range
One Date range control sits beside the page heading. Choose Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days or Last 12 months. It starts on 30 days, and every card on the page follows it.
Today’s numbers can lag by a few minutes. Earlier days can be up to a day behind.
The top card
The first card shows three numbers for the range you chose:
- Visitors is how many different people visited.
- Button clicks is how many times people tapped a button or link on your site.
- Messages is how many enquiries came in through your contact form.
Under the numbers, a chart shows visits for each day. Days with no visits show as zero. The chart counts visits, so it can run higher than Visitors when one person comes back more than once.
Where visitors came from and what they did
Four cards sit below the top card:
- Where visitors came from lists the places people arrived from, such as Instagram or Google.
- What they looked at ranks the pages of your site by views.
- What they clicked ranks your links and buttons by clicks.
- What they used splits visits between computers and phones. Tablets are counted with phones.
A new site starts empty. Share your address and the first visits appear in these cards.
In depth
Worth knowing
Worth knowing shows short notes about your traffic. A note might say a page gained or lost visitors, that where visitors come from has changed, or which day or time your site is busiest. Each note gives a figure and the period it covers. The card only appears when there is something to say.
Button clicks each day and How long they stayed
Button clicks each day charts clicks the way the top card charts visits. How long they stayed shows the share of visits that lasted 10 seconds or more, and the average time for those visits. Once there is a timed visit, it also shows On your site now: people who were on your site in the last minute or so. That figure re-checks every 30 seconds while the page is open.
Where they are
Where they are puts a pin on a map for each city, with a list beside it. Switch the list between Cities, Countries and States. States covers Australian states. Location comes from the network a visitor is on, so treat it as approximate.
Messages and sign-ups
Messages and sign-ups counts the enquiries sent through your contact form and the people who joined through your sign-up form. The people themselves are in Contacts.
Clicks by integration, and Products, Services and Events clicked
Clicks by integration counts taps on your Instagram, Google and other connected integration links. Products clicked, Services clicked and Events clicked rank single items from your content. Each of these three cards only appears once something has been clicked, so a site without a shop never shows Products clicked.
Page speed
Page speed shows how long your site took to appear, measured on real visits. First byte is when anything starts arriving. First paint is when something shows on screen. Largest paint is when the main picture or text is there. The figures describe what most visitors saw, not the fastest. With fewer than five loads, the card says there are too few to read as a trend.
On your Home page
Home in the dashboard has a This week card. It shows how many people visited your site in the past week, with a small chart of visits once there are some. See more takes you to Analytics.
No bookings analytics
Analytics doesn’t cover bookings. If you connect a booking, reservation or ordering integration, the booking happens on that integration. Milkcrate counts the tap on your link. It can’t see what happens after that, so check the integration for its own numbers.
